Does anyone know what this is?
Is the fruit edible? My dogs eat the berries like they are cheese! It is growing in Williamsburg, Virginia. It grows in partial sun/shade where it is, climbs and comes back from seed every year. Fruit is almost black when fully mature. Clik on the photos below for a larger photo.
Again, the prize goes to Garrie Rouse! You should see his site, great photos and lots of plant information!
The Flower 1/8" to 1/4" across
The Fruit 1/2"x3/4" Turns almost black when fully Mature
This is Melothria pendula (Creeping Cucumber). Its predominantly a Southeastern plant from the Cucumber (or Gourd) Family that is apparently well established in Tidewater Virginia. Don't know about the edibility. I hope you haven't waited 2 years to find this out.
