Brisbane's August 2015 problem

Is the FAA flying their procedure? Yes 75% of the time the flights are passing through the SSTIK way point. 25% of the flights are not following the procedure. These 25% flights are creating 78% of the noise events over 65db at the Brisbane noise monitor. Indeed 28% of the flights that fail to fly through SSTIK create a noise event at the Brisbane noise monitor. This is a major problem for people living in Brisbane. And it is not as if we do not hear all the flights below 65db. We do.

Reasons given for the FAA directing flights to turn early:
- interference with flights from Oakland. ie Safety and separation.(Then why did the FAA design the Oakland CANDL and SFO SSTIK procedures to require human involvement at the very time when the FAA is trying to automate the procedures?)
- because the controllers at TRACON have been historically trained to turn flights early and are having difficulty implementing the new procedure according to Cliff Lentz, the Chairman of the SFO Round Table and our elected Brisbane City Councillor. Is this a suitable reason? If you had employees who did not follow new rules, what would you do? Surely one would develop a training and personal improvement plan. Because this turning early is happening every day, it suggests there is a bigger problem at TRACON.
- Others say because the controller jobs are going away in the same way that some may remember the bridges had toll takers. Where are all the ex-toll takers? Retired or found new positions?
