Genealogy / St. Clair

I've been a genealogist for a few years now. I can trace my ST. CLAIR line back to my 2nd great maternal grandfather, Robert St. Clair, born, presumably in Michigan in 1847. Personally, I believe he was born in Canada but cannot yet prove this. I further believe but cannot yet prove, that Robert was a grandson of, Moses St. Clair and that this ST. CLAIR line goes back uninterrupted to, Henry Sinclair, born around 1580 in Scotland. My own direct line of St. Clair’s have pretty much stayed in Michigan for the duration of recorded contemporary history.

 Andrew N. St. Clair was the fourth child of eight, and the fourth son born to, Robert St. Clair and his wife, Jeannette E. [CORBETT] St. Clair, on 28 February 1875. He married Lillian M. Walker. On 16 December 1908 in Cheboygen, Cheboygen, MI he married, Vera Constance Marks. Together this couple shared nine children. Above we see Austin as a young man. This is a treasured photograph by his great granddaughter, Salena Marie [Robinson] Mann. This photograph was given to us by, Lyle Rolland St. Clair.

Newton Stephen St. Clair was the fourth child & the fourth son born to, Austin Newton St. Clair & his wife, Vera Constance [MARKS] St. Clair on, 12 March 1916 in, Onaway, Presque Ilse, MI. In Newberry, Luce, MI on 09 April 1938 he married, Alma A. Mae Deloria. She was an elder sister to, Esther Emilia Deloria, wife of Newton Stephen St. Clair's brother, Leon August. Together, Newton Stephen St. Clair & his wife, Alma A. [Deloria] St. Clair would share three children. Newton Stephen St. Clair died in McBain, Missaukee, MI on 06 May 1993. Cecil passed away 31 October 2008. The above picture was taken from his online obituary. I am the great grandson of Cecil St. Clair. Wanted to let you know that his middle name was actually Hiram. Not sure why, though I believe he said it was due to another family member's name.

I'd love to get your research on the st. clair lineage, as you mentioned that it goes back to 1580, and I've only gotten to around 1800.

This is an excellent display of our family's history, and I'm really glad I stumbled upon this!

I have traced back to Peter St Clair born 1830 who married Sarah Elizabeth Taimmons
Their children born in Sandusky Ohio were:
Liza(1858), John (1830), Joseph (1862), Mary (1865) George Alexander (1868), Henrietta (1873), Fanny (1875), James (1879)



Joseph's Son Fred (1897) had a daughter Gladys Marie born in Adrian MI. Gladys' Daughter Terry Lynne also born in Adrian is my mother.

Unfortunately the trail goes cold there. Could use some assistance. I am on FB just IM me. Thank You

I have been searching for information on my grandfather, Karl St. Clair. My dad was also Karl, but he spelled it Carl born somewhere in Missouri in 1934. My father had one brother, Lee St.Clair, who was last living in Alaska, but that was 40 years ago. My grandfather and grandmother were divorced. I am not sure what her first name was. If you know of anyone in the family, it would be greatly appreciated. Vanja St. Clair

I just found this website and appreciated the pictures you have posted. I thought that I should comment. I am descended from the Moses St.Clair you mention, and I am aware of the letter that Robert Moses had received in 1905, which mentions his cousin, Barbara Sears. Here are my thoughts (all unproven): Robert's parents moved to Michigan before he was born, where he was born. At some point, his father died, and his mother maybe remarried and moved back to St.Thomas. I have found Moses on the 1830 U.S. Census for Town of Henrietta, New York State (the family moved to Canada in 1833), and Moses and his wife Catharine, had 5 children by 1830. We have only been able to positively identify 3 of the 5 children. This leaves 2 sons who are unknown: 1 less than 5 years in 1830, and 1 who was between 5 and 10 years. I am confident that Robert Moses is the son of one these unidentified sons (proven by letter, which indicates that he is the son of one of Moses' eldest child). We have documented that there was a son, named Elias, but this is unproven. You can contact me if you wish.

This is the first time I have run across this site. It is well edocumented and very interesting. I am a St. Clair, I have traced my LIneage back to Charles Sinclair of Sinclair's bottom in 18th Century Virginia. I lived in Pinconning MI for Several years and my family still continues to live there.

I've been searching for any information on Hazel St. Clair born 1913. She had a sister named Lillian DeRosia, and I'm thinking they were daughters of Andrew & Lillian (Walker). Hazel's 1st husband was a Mathews and they had an adopted son (James/Jimmy)... then I don't know if she was widowed or divorced, and her second husband was Virgil Wagner of Bay City. Hazel was my babysitter from the time I was an infant until about age 8 so she was as near & dear to me as a Grandmother. I actually lived in Marine City for a year while my dad worked at the St. Clair Power Plant.
