Above is an original oil painting, depicting the Mattssen, or, Mattson family farm, located in Skutnaeba, Finland. This original copy hangs in the home of Lucile Alena [Mattson] Robinson.

Two of Salena's great grandparents migtrated from Finland. The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the only geographical area of the country where the majority of the populous are able to claim multiple Finnish ancestry. They take it very serious. Normally, we'd not include this picture with this gallery. However, it's the only one in its own group. Shown above is James Johnson & his wife, Martha [Hansdotter] Johnson. They were the parents of three children, namely Hannah Sofia Johnson, shown next in this series. This is the only shot we have of these fine people. It's believed they lived around, Muskegon, MUskegon, MI.

I've researched genealogy for almost two decades now. Every now & then you come across an old photograph that just grabs you. This one did that for me. This woman is simply, stunningly beautiful. Just look at those eyes. Hannah Sofia Johnson was one of four children & two daughters born to, James Johnson & his wife, Martha [Hansdotter] Johnson. She married, Anders Viktor Mattson & this couple shared 13 known children. Looking at this picture, I know how she ended up with thirteen children.

Also known as, Andrew Victor Mattson. Andrew was the fifth of seven children, & the eldest son born to, Matts Mattssen & his wife, Brita Caisa Hallis [Andersdotter] Mattssen. On 11 October 1883, in Whitehall Michigan, he married, Hannah Sofia Johnson. Together this couple would share thirteen known children.

Charles was the third child of thirteen & the third son born to, Andrew Victor Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson. Charles was born in, Boyne City, Charlevoix, MI and died in, Covington, Kenton, KY. Around 1924 he married, Sydney M. Bond & together this couple shared seven known children. He rests in Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI.

Sydney M. Bond was born in Sutton's Bay, Leelanau, MI, on 29 February 1904. Sometime around 1924 she married, Charles E. Mattson. This couple would have seven children together. Shown above is an article printed about Sydney printed in the, Newberry News.

Shown above is the shared gravestone for, Sydney M. [Bond] Mattson & her son, Russell Dale Mattson. They both rest in Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI. Charles E. Mattson, Sudney's husband & Charles' father rests a short distance away.

Russell Dale Mattson was the fifth child of seven & the second eldest son to be born to, Charles E. Mattson & his wife, Sydney M. [Bond] Mattson. He rest in the Mattson Family Plot, Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI.

George was the fifth child of thirteen & the fourth son born to, Andrew Victor Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson. He was born in White Hall Michigan, but later moved to Newberry, Luce, MI. It was in Newberry on 13 February 1918, that he married, Alma Alena Johnson. Together this couple would share six children. George was a veteran of the Great War, & the Swedisch language was his mother tongue.

This is the coolest shot. I presume this is a wedding photograph, however I don't honestly know. I scanned it from a box of pictures I found in the closet of my grandparents home. It shows, George Emil Mattson & his wife, Alma Alena [Johnson] Mattson.

Another photo of this fine couple. I believe the disfigurment shown on George's ear came from his experience in the Great War.

Lucille Alena Mattson was the eldest child of six born to, George Emil Mattson & his wife, Alma Alena [Johnson] Mattson on, 01 September 1918. In a double wedding ceremony, She married, Harold Everette Robinson in Newberry, Luce, MI on, 06 July 1944. The other couple was Harold's brother Herman & his bride, Irene [Lyski] Robinson. Together, Lucille & Harold would share seven children.

Shown above is a photograph of Harold Everette Robinson & his bride, Lucille Alena [Mattson] Robinson. The original reads on the back, "Wedding Photo". Since they were married 06 July 1944, that's when we presume this shot was taken. Harold & Lucille were married in a double wedding ceremony with his brother, Herman Wesley Robinson & his own bride, Irene [Lyski] Robinson. Salena Marie [Robinson] Mann is in possession of an original copy of this photograph.

What a wonderful photograph. Our only disappointment is that it's so small. Above we see Lucille Alena [Mattson] loved on by her husband, Harold Everette Robinson. I love this one.

Esther lived to be 100 years old, passing away in Newberry in 2001. She also lived many years in the very house that my mother now calls home.

George Raymond Mattson was the 2nd of 6 children & the eldest son born to, George Emil & Alma Alena [JOHNSON] Mattson on, 10 August 1920. On 28 July 1956, In Newberry, Luce, MI, he married, Louise Pauline [ROBINSON] Hetrick. Together, this couple shared three children. Shown above left to right, top to bottom, we see: Gerald Everett, John T., Barbara Jean, & Cindy Lou, HETRICK, standing with their mother, Louise Pauline [ROBINSON] Hetrick, Mattson. Shown sitting are: Rodney, George Raymond, & Gregory A. Mattson.

Gregory A. Mattson was the second of three children born to, George Raymond Mattson & his wife, Louise Pauline [Robinson] Mattson on 24 April 1959. He died in Newberry, Luce, MI on, 30 May 2007. He rests in Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI.

Dorothy E. Mattson is the third of six children & the second daughter born to, George Emil Mattson & his wife, Alma Alena [Johnson] Mattson on 18 April 1923. Dorothy married, Viles Henry Martindale & together this couple share four known children.

Eleanor Jean Mattson was the fourth child & third daughter born to, George Emil Mattson & his wife, Alma Alena [Johnson] Mattson on, 31 October 1935. She married, Willard Martindale, we presume a brother to Viles. Eleanor Jean [Mattson] Martindale & her husband, Willard Martindale shared seven children together.

William Andrew Mattson was the fifth child of six & the second son born to, George Emil Mattson & his wife, Alma Alena [Johnson] Mattson on, 15 July 1930. On, 06 June 1951 he married, Shirley Ann Monica, and together this couple shared six children. William died on, 20 November 2002. He rests in, Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI.

This stone clearly shows William, "Bill" as a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Paul Richard Mattson was the youngest of six children & the third son born to, George Emil Mattson & his wife, Alma Alena [Johnson] Mattson on, 02 June 1934. He married, Margaret Smith & together this couple shared five children. Paul died on, 12 December 1993 & rests in, Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI.

Archibald Andrew Mattson was the sixth child of thirteen & the fifth son born to, Andrew Victor Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson on, 26 January 1897. Not much is known to us about Archibald. What I know, I got from my grandmother, Lucille Alena [Mattson] Robinson's, notes. I know he married a woman named, Ruth, around 1919 & had three children; a son & twin girls.

Shown above is Archibald Andrew Mattson in his U.S. Army uniform. He was a veteran of the Great War. He died 23 November 1949 in Lansing, Ingham, MI.

Margaret was a twin born to, Archibald Andrew Mattson & his wife, Ruth. She has a twin sister and a brother. We do not know that ages of these Mattson's, nor where they are to date. I scanned these pictures from a group my grandmother, Lucille Alena [Mattson] Robinson, had in her closet.

Maytha Mattson was a twin to Magaret. These girls also have a brother; Kenneth. I do not know any more information than that. I wish I did. My husband fell in love with this picture, almost the same as he did with Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson's picture.

Harry M. Mattson was the 7th child & the 6th son born to, Andrew V. Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson on, 04 October 1900, in Glen Arbor, MI. On 03 April 1926, in Newberry, he married, Esther Steiker. Together this couple shared 03 sons. Harry died in Newberry, in 1961. He's buried in Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry. A photograph of Esther can be seen a few rows up, sititng with her nephew & neices, George Raymond, Dorothy E., & Lucille Alena, Mattson. Harry M. Mattson & his wife, Esther [Steiker] Mattson made their home in the very same house as my mother, Lois Marie [St. Clair] Robinson, does now.

Marian L. Mattson was the eighth child of thirteen & the second daughter born to, Andrew Victor Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson on, 22 November 1904, in Boyne Falls, Michigan. On 26 December 1924 in, Iron Mountain, Michigan, she married, Norman Shelson. Together Marian & Norman would share eight known children. She died in Bangor Bay Michigan on, 14 July 1990. She's buried in Oak Rudge Cemetery, Boyne City, Leelanau, MI.

Margaret was the third of eight children born to, Norman Shelson & his wife, Marian L. [Mattson] Shelson. Shown above is the obituary printed for her in the Bay City Michigan newspaper.

The notes of my paternal grandmother, Lucille Alena [Mattson] Robinson, show Mike Shelson as a twin. However the notes don't say to which of his siblings he was a twin with. Michael Shelson was one of eight known children born to, Norman Shelson & his wife, Marian L. [Mattson] Shelson. Now, you know, excatly what I do about this young Mattson.

Theodore Mattson was the ninth child of thirteen & the seventh son born to, Andrew Victor Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson in Boyne City, Leelanau, MI, in April of 1907. Our notes show he married, Silvia Agnes, but not when or where. Together he & Silvia shared at least one known child together, John Mattson. Theodore Mattson died in Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WS on, 25 November 1953.

Minnie Florence Mattson was the tenth known child & the third daughter born to, Andrew Victor Mattson & his wife, Hannah Sofia [Johnson] Mattson on 06 March 1909, in Boyne City, Leelanau, MI. Our notes show that she married, Elmer Michael Lent & togetehr this couple shared a son, Michael. She & Elmer migrated to Newberry, Luce, MI in 1913. She died there on 03 January 1955, & is buried in, Forest Home Cemetery, Newberry, Luce, MI with her husband.

Michael is the only known child born to, Elmer Michael Lent & his wife, Minnie Florence [Mattson] Lent. Nothing more is known of this man.
