An accident with the "Marion Dufresne" (the ship was seriously damaged by a collision with rocks near Crozet) gave me the opportunity to stay 10 days near a 30.000 pair colony of the King Penguin on Crozet. I could support the research group by catching the juveniles for closer examination (blood samples for stress measurements etc). Almost every 2 hours the ca 25 northern and southern giant petrels killed a juvenile or wounded adult.
