Sammy was adopted from Muttvile Senior Dog Rescue on 5/21/2011. She's a samoyed/golden retriever mix.
The story goes thusly:
I'd been spending several weekends visiting shelters and adoption fairs looking to adopt a dog. I was originally looking for a pup in the 4 - 12 month range... until I met Molly.
Molly was a nine year old chocolate lab at the Peninsula Humane Society. She was so sweet, but she suffered from loud and destructive separation anxiety. She needed to be in a home with someone around almost all the time. I couldn't adopt her, but the thought of another older dog wasting away, or worse, in a shelter was heartbreaking to me, so I decided to help out an older dog as the first (it's always been pretty certain that I'd adopt two dogs so they can have company).
After more looking and one false start, I met a dog named "Sandi". For obvious reasons her name had to change (I did call Sandy about it, she had no objections, but it was bound to lead to confusion). I settled on "Samantha"/"Sammy" (I realize that "Sammy" is a bit cliche for a Samoyed mix, but it's the only thing I could come up with that sounded close enough to "Sandi" for her to recognize and answer to).
She's definitely in need of some diet and exercise. She's old and slow but, then, so am I - however, she has the redeeming qualities of sweetness and loveability, which many would say I lack. She seems to like it here; and I love having her here!
