We were hoping that the sun might soften up some of the snow in the couloir, so we didn't start out until after 8:00 AM. Alas, it was a vain hope. The ice remained pretty much bulletproof all the way up, our crampon points were hardly digging in at all. Here Bud is approaching the top of the glacier, below the climb to Glacier notch.
