Karl Rowhourst and I set this one up like this:
Grinch doll about 48" in front of the miniature tree and then shot using tight depth-of-field from as close as the lens would allow to capture the doll.
We then used a cheesy starlight filter on the Christmas lights.
The odd part is that we had a strobe above and slightly behind grinch off to the left but then slow-synced the shutter to catch the lights on the tree.
No other lights but we did have a reflector in front and to the right of Grinch to fill in the extreme shadows.
We then used both hands full of fake snow to even it out manually. It took about a half dozen shots to get our snow spread as desired.
