I metered the white balance to a gray card in these "washed out" images and then left the thinking up to the D100.
I then set it to use high contrast internally with 1 stop over-exposure.
Main light using softbox just above and barely to right of camera set to f8.0 with backlight at between f11 and f16 depending on light burn.
Read EFIX for camera f-stop. Many images using D100's higher contrast setting but very few are edited on the computer.
