Mahabalipuram was a flourishing port town of the Pallava rulers of south India. In ancient times, as now, fishermen were of quite low Sudra caste. Although the Indian law prescribe monogamie some fishermen are secretly married twice as an old practical tradition: when a fisherman died at sea the widow was sheltered by the man of her married sister as widows are not marriageable anymore.
Although it was taken with flash I didn't want to rehold this picture and I tried to reduce that mercyless hard reflecting light with an 50%overlay portrait skin filter and healing some light spots
PS I asked the girl at his back to tap on his left shoulder, so he turned around towards me ..... and I pussed the botton at my lab while he was gazing at me. After I borrowed my glasses he was able to see himself on the screen of my camera.
