The detail and texture in the face is just great. Almost looks real in the thumbnail. The OOF backgound is just right, not too much, not too little.

Yes, the artist has created a sense of sadness that just permeates your photo. The chips and cuts from the chisel and the general weathering, especially on the shoulders and chest, to me symbolize a failure of the subject to achieve his goals.

This one is worth a seccond look, the artist has captured something beyond the ordinary, perhaps melancholy. In a way, the rail fence behind adds symbolism.
