Antler growth

Natrona County, Wyoming

Mule deer carry their antlers into February when they drop off and the process begins again. New antler growth begins in March and continues into September when they strip the velvet from the antlers.

From the same deer! That is amazing all in itself. I have often wondered about the stages of antler growth. I think I'll print this off (may I?) It just is so informative about something I really wanted to know about but could not find a way - thanks Bob!

Thanks Shirley,
To the best of my knowledge, all of these photos are of tha same deer. Depending on weather conditions, whitetail deer can shed antlers any time from December on.

What nice documentation of the antler cycle! I've been wondering how long it will be before our White Tail start losing the antlers. These are really nice. I especially like the May 15th and 20th photos because I've never seen the antlers in that stage on our deer. Those antlers in the August and October photos are amazing too. Really enjoyed this, thanks Bob!
