Peace now reigns at a spot which once bounced to the beat in the 1960s nightclub boom times.
The La Strada in Station Road was one of a string of nightclubs, including The Cellar, Shoreline, Chelsea Cat, Kismet and Latino which made South Shields an entertainment hotspot.
A public garden has now been created on the site of the La Strada and, in recognition of the land's former role as a must for clubbers, a sculpture recalling those heady days has been unveiled.
Artist Jim Roberts has wrought in metal the sort of table which surrounded the dance floor at La Strada, and placed on it bottles, glasses and a handbag.
The public garden has been created by Groundwork South Tyneside as part of the national Towns for People project funded by Marks & Spencer.
