no more children - brenda

This building has been our town's junior high since 1987; prior to that it housed grade 10 as part of the senior high complex and even earlier, it was a vocational trades training school. Now the last of its students has gone and in September, a new facility will open to receive them. The Bulldogs were their sports teams. My daughter attended this school and she was a proud volleyball Bulldog. End of an era! The building's fate is still undecided.

I remember when I was at school we all wished they would pull it down and now 50 years later all the schools I went to have long gone. These days memories of school days make me realise they were the best days of my life.

Eeek, that should have read 1980s. I wish we could edit our comments!

Colin, the building itself actually dates to around 1948 and has been used as a school throughout its lifespan; 1987 was just the date it became a junior high. I taught there when it was a grade 10 annex, earlier in the 19080s. I suspect its education career is now finished. Wow, endika, your school was once a saloon!?? I love that!! Shirley, the school has already been removed from the Wiki article on schools in my community. :(

Sadly the school I went to is still there :)
1987 would be classed as a fairly recent building here....

I like this image and the story behind it. My own elementary school sterted its story as a restaurant, dancing saloon and tea room 100 years ago or so (Belle Epoque time) then it became a nuns convent, and finally a school, which is its use still today. Every time I go to my birth town, I visit it

Oh, I do hope they don't demolish it. Some one could use it for offices perhaps? It would be hard to watch it go. Great entry Brenda. This place will surely be an important part of many childhood memories.
