Wish we had a picture of it but one of our cats was a great hunter. She was chasing a mouse and somehow the mouse ended up perched on our garden hose staring right at our cat. If you don't know, cats see movement very well, but not so well if things aren't moving. The cat and the mouse just sat staring at each for several minutes at a distance of about 6 inches! I think the mouse actually got away in the end!

marimontse is correct our once outdoor cats now live indoors have many toys to hunt and attack including each other and my foot. I have the claw marks to prove it

Yes, I had a cat that used to hunt. He never ate his catches, he thought I would be impressed and would sit at the back door waiting for me to see. I hated it and bought him a bell to scare the pray. He would bring baby bunnies and he wouldn't kill them but mamed them so they couldnt run away. OH how I hated that!

I have had cats almost along all my life, many of them used to hunt. I think it is mainly an instinct rather than a need of food (in a domestic cat). If they cannot hunt, they play with their toys.

Rick, you are not giving the cat enough to eat.

Not great photography - it was taken through a screen door at the height of 4 days of storms. But many cat owners will recognise the feeling...
