I think the molten metal look occured due to the use of some heavy "S" curve work to increase the contrast. Catman

I love those water drops - as Colin said, they look like molten lead, or maybe quicksilver.

Looks like bits of molten metal rather than water beads. Very nice shot, nicely isolated from the background too.
