Gifts of Nature - Grace (CB)
by Collin Baxter

As someone who mainly does nature photography dragonflies always amaze me with their colour and delicate wings they are also amazingly graceful. ( Well I think so)

Thanks for the comments. I liked this one as it was not the classic hunched dragonfly shoot. These insects always interest me. A tip forsome one trying to shoot dragonflies they normally fly between 3 or 4 fixed points and will land on these points. Watch them and get to a point where they land but don’t let your shadow fall on the point or in the path of their flight and you would be amazed how close you can get.

Nature's helicopter. Hover, descend, accelerate and armored to boot! A great shot of physics not in motion.

You're really right about the Dragonfly, they are a marvel of grace and lace. You know I always picture them as little helicopters hovering around over the lakes. I like the way you caught this one on the branch but the wings are moving, it really shows how they sinc up, sorta like the way an engine's pistons have a firing order, so do the wings of the dragonfly.

Beautiful! My dragonflies won't hatch for some months yet. This is a lovely closeup of this one, with his miraculous eyes.

Really nice catch, I like how the fella is in the sunlight and the background in deep shade, really makes him pop off the screen.

I didn't think of that before, but when you watch them fly, it seems they have a plan of flight. Not like butterflies or some other bugs which fly like they have no connection with brain.
Nice picture with fine light. F: 11, 13 would be even better IMO.

They are the only bug that really seem like they put everything they have into flying - even got the goggles for it! Beautiful gradation of colors caught in the perfect light.

Yes they are gracefull, when you see them chase midges around a tree on a summers evening, you realise just how gracefull they can be.
Nice shot.
