05-SEP-2008 Bobby Marriott - rmx

old oak - rmx

South East Park - Columbia, SC

i had walked past this huge oak tree several times... i had even photographed it once or twice but nothing ever caught its grand personality. when i saw the new challenge, this tree popped into my imagination. perhaps i could capture her aged bark? hurricane hanna left me with a dull and lifeless day, making it difficult to get any good highlights as everything was wrapped in shadow.

trying to make lemonade from the day's lemons, i played with dragging the shutter as i panned a large limb. the results were a mixed bag...

revised: cropped per the will of the people. it abstracts it further... i can barely tell what it is and took the picture. lol.

other sizes: small medium original auto

Nice abstract ! The white part at the bottom is distracting my eyes though.

I agree is is a very nice abstract and beings it is a special tree to you makes it more meaningful. I have to agree that bit of bright light at the bottom would be better gone or perhaps just use the cloning stamp and fill it in with brown bark. I'd like it better then.

Donno, seems like it needs something (or less of something?) What about cropping off the bottom 1/3??

Not really my type of thing, but this is an interesting abstract, there is a water-like motion to the greens. It would look good printed large, matted, framed and hung on a plain wall.
