The Wheatear L 14-16,5cm (5.5-6.4") breeds in open stony terrains such as moors, downs, cliff-tops and tidal meadows, or in farmlands with stone walls. It's a pretty slim bird with a black T-pattern at the white tail and a white rump. The back is grey to grey-brown. The eyebrow is white to light yellow-brown. The adult male has during the spring and summer a blue-grey crown and back, a white eyebrow and a black eye line, black wings, and a yellow-beige throat and breast which often fades during the autumn. The female has in the autumn a grey-brown back and a yellow-brown under side and with darker chin and wings. The eyebrow is beige and is widest behind the eye. |
