The Goldcrest L 8,5-9,5cm (3.3-3.7") breeds in mixed broadleaf/needleleaf forests. Live in tree crowns restless hopping and whirling between the branches. Often disclosed by it's very loud call sri-sri-sri. A very little bird (Europe's smallest), the combination of the olive green back and beige abdomen with narrow short white wing bars eliminates almost all other birds. A short neck and a large head gives a compact impression. The dark "peppercorn" eye seems large in the light face. The distinctive crown band is yellow with black edges. A white eye-ring and grey chins with a long thin and black bill. |
