May Peep - Plus short billed Western Sandpipers - Ensley Bottoms, Memphis TN

Looking for input, just a retarded American Peep? Strange plumage for mid May at Ensley Bottoms, Shelby Co. TN. Saw the bird at extreme distance in AM on a gray day, watched it feed, preen and sleep; later found it close but again asleep. I was looking through scope when everything flushed and never found it again among the few thousand birds present. Added a few male Western sandpipers with short or straight bills just for kicks.
