Golden Eagle - Big Sandy Unit - 12-24-05 reduced.jpg

Even at over 1/4 mile and in the misty rain this immature Golden Eagle's head color and tail pattern gives its ID away.

There are 2 sets of Golden Eagles in the area of the Big Sandy Unit, TENN NWR on the TN River in Henry Co. These birds sometimes travel in family groups during the first winter and on 12-24-05 at the maintenance area there was a pair, this 1st yr bird and an adult circling. Over on the Big Sandy River, I had another adult Golden traveling with a sub-adult.

Very cool, Jeff! The only Golden I've seen in TN was on Cordell Hull reservoir at Granville, an immature with perfect field markings and BIIIIG.
