There were no birds on the bar when I first visited early that morning and this was the only bird I could see with my field glasses when I returned after checking the AR rice fields for potential RAIL sites.
At 2 PM, the heat waves and sun glare were pretty bad when I first saw this bird across the Mississippi River and I thought it was just a Caspian Tern facing me head on. The white breast and orange bill fit but what are those black saddle bags. My next guess was just too hard to believe but sure enough Black Skimmer was all that was left on the list. I've been looking for nearly 20 years and now I find two in TN, 100 miles apart in less than a month.
