Hybrid - Probable Cavasback - Ring-necked Duck

I came across 7 adult male and 1 female Canvasback at TVA's Allen Steam Plant settling ponds, Sunday, December 10, 2006. One of the males appeared slightly smaller and the head was very dark but still showed a burnished red color. With better looks, I thought at first the bird might be a Redhead/Canvasback hybrid but the details and conformation did not fit that mix in my mind.

The hybrid was always with the Canvasbacks and left with them to feed in McKellar Lake and they returned about an hour later. It was seen displaying to the female Canvasback.

Click on images to get slightly larger photo. Sorry for quality but again these photos were taken with an old 1 meg camera at well over 150 yards through a scope.
