This is Black Sunday Nov. 1990. It was named that because it was the nastiest storm on record. I believe around 6 vessels gave out 'May Days' that afternoon. What you are looking at here is an 8-10 man life raft (probably 10ft in diameter) being approached by a 122ft vessel (that should give you some scale on how large these waves were). A large wave had hit another vessel and took it's flying bridge out and all it's electronics so they had to abandon ship and hop in their life raft. The brown vessel is approaching them to lift them on board. Yes, we were fishing in this until the MayDays began and we had to head to their rescue! I opened the galley door (stupidly I might add) to snap off half dozen shots!
