This is an image of a small stand of trees at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Smoky Mountain National Park on a cold and frosty overcast morning. Elk often gather in this area and can be seen along with numerous "elk car jams" caused by tourists. The reintroduction of elk to Smoky Mountain National Park started in 2001 with 25 elk being released. This program has proven to be very successful and very popular. This park is also noted as having one of the largest black bear populations in the nation for National Parks.
