White Oak Near Deerfield, Blacksburg, Va

This is a white oak that stands along a wooded pathway that my wife and I take our dog walking on occasion. I would estimate the tree to be about 400 plus years old. The circumference if this tree is larger that a 400 year old white oak called the Merry Tree that a storm recently destroyed at Smithfield Plantation adjacent to the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. Having seen both oak trees, this is the larger of the two. A silent witness to the history of this region of Virginia. I can only wonder at the tales it could tell. In this area white oak trees are very rare with most oak trees being red oak. To capture the entire tree it would have required me using using my 8mm fisheye lens which I did not have with me.

Amazing information about this tree and you are right if it could talk the conversation would last for many years on many subjects.
A very nice monochrome with nice detail and values in eye appealing harmony.
Thanks for posting this about this senior tree in our great country.

Less is more. I like it in monotone which lends dignity. White Oak was sought after when I built furniture years ago. VV

This is a great well to capture its magnificence!
Your work here is an image to treasure just as this oak is a treasure.
I cannot wait for the fisheye view as well.

Gorgeous, rich tones allow the tree to stand out so nicely in the background of the foliage.

a stirring salute to an impressive tree...it seems so huge, and healthy after all the centuries...this view works well, so the fisheye is for another day...
