DSC_0174.jpg

Before I bought the camera, I had read many threads discussing the "back focus problem" apparently plagueing many of these early production cameras. Truth or user error? Within a couple days of purchasing the camera, I shot this back focus test with a Nikkor 600 F/2.8 AF Micro. It clearly shows about 10mm of back focus. Unfortunately for me, I listened to all the naysayers and decided that this was some sort of operator error. I had never done tests such as this with a film camera.

I am not showing you the dozens, maybe hundreds of frames I shot over the next 5 months of various concocted test charts with different lenses. This image is illustrative of the consistent results I got during a dozen or more test sessions.
