The crescent moon and Mercury. This moon is 28 days, 8 hours and 35 minutes old; 1 day and 4 hours from the new moon. Only 1.7% of the surface is illuminated. The moon was only 5 degrees above the horizon when photographed. It must be viewed from a very flat horizon; the ocean is perfect. I rarely see such a slim crescent because I do not have access to a flat horizon very often. Even at the ocean, the weather conditions must be near perfect. In this case the weather was marginal, but good enough to provide the opportunity for a photo.
