The Great Egret had just landed in a small pond at the lagoon where a Great Blue Heron was already fishing. The Heron took a dim view of sharing the catch with the intruder and the Egret chose a quick retreat as the Heron closed in rather than taking on the other bird. Despite the fact that the two birds are about the same size, the Heron is clearly the dominant species and no other birds risk messing with them.
