When I checked the surf cams (yes we have such things here to allow folks to check out the wave conditions from the comfort of their living rooms) the sky looked all overcast in the hour before sunset. Thought I'd pack up my gear and head down anyway, and when I arrived a brilliant band of light had opened at the horizon. The surfer was nice enough to throw an aerial to add some punctuation to the scene.
