The surfer throwing this trick off a wave is a friend of mine, Jason Shook. He is a Captain in the Life Guards and on the Board of Directors for the Encinitas Boardriders surf club. I photographed him last year when he volunteered with the "A Walk on Water" event at Seaside, where he helped to treat special needs kids to a day of surfing fun. I think some folks tend to think of the stereotypic "Surfer Dude" when they envision the sport, and I want to try to expose another face of surfing.
