Various Exhibits, Petersen Automotive Museum -- Dec. 1, 2018

On Dec. 1, 2018, I made a return visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Among the exhibits I viewed there were those devoted to "Japanese Supercars," "The Roots of Monozukuri: Creative Spirit in Japanese Automaking," and "The Porsche Effect." My PBase galleries featuring the photos I took of those exhibits are now available for viewing.

Here, I am pleased to share my photos from various other exhibits that were on hand during my visit to the museum. Unfortunately, on the afternoon I was there, many of the cars on display had been temporarily shifted from their exhibit spots to make room for a huge banquet that was to be held in the evening. This meant that many of the cars were not in their optimum locations and, thus, did not have the benefit of proper positioning and lighting. I went ahead and took pictures anyway.

One "must-see" part of the museum is The Vault, where unfortunately picture-taking is not allowed. This storage garage contains the bulk of the most interesting cars in the Petersen's permanent collection or temporary possession. I highly recommend the extra-cost 90-minute guided tour. The museum's 350+ cars take turns on the museum's regular display areas, which can accommodate no more than 150 cars at a time. So, about 200 stay in The Vault.

The Petersen Automotive Museum is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2019. After the 14-month renovation of its building (October 2014 through December 2015), it has become more like a modern art gallery and less like a traditional museum. Compare my 2018 museum photos with my 2008 and 2010 museum images. Here are links to two of my six PBase galleries on the Petersen from those earlier years -- https://pbase.com/noyphoto/petersenautomuseum2008 and https://pbase.com/noyphoto/petersenmuseum2010permanentstreetscapeotherexhibits .
