This is a photo essay of sorts. Some info is below but follow the images in order to get the story in full! Thanks in advance for reading and a warning: it’s long …ish. As a note, if the image has (nt) in the title then there is no text within.

Our trip to Thunder Bay started the worst way a road trip could possibly start: it was cancelled. My partner on the trip, Nate, lost essential luggage by the wonderful Airror Canada somewhere in Toronto. Instead of being down about this I looked at the bright side of doing some extra waterfowl hunting and spending unexpected time with my girlfriend. But, a turn of events! The luggage arrived via courier and we were off a day behind schedule.

Driving up to T-bay was excellent. I think the initial hour and a half that I took the helm scared Nate into driving the remaining 900 miles and 12 and a half hours. Nate missed his calling – shoulda been a trucker!

We arrived in T-bay after ogling lines along the highway for many miles on the way there. My buddy’s apartment where we were staying was more than adequate and we got in a good rest after deciding what to gun for in the morning.

We awoke to darkness coming to realize that it doesn’t go away up north until 8:30AM. Our goal for the day was White Lightning on Mt. McKay and Ice Stud was the second route we intended to do. After driving up the initial slopes on McKay we hopped out of the car and immediately spotted White Lightning’s pearly ice! After 20 minutes up the talus I lost the rock-paper-scissors with Nate who stated that I ALWAYS choose scissors first. Best 2 of 3 next time, I think.
