The trip was partially a rescue mission to pick up a good
friend of mine and the fiance of this gentleman pictured, and
partially an excuse to climb Ontario's best ice. So we left at
2:30 on December the 21st right after my last exam, arrived the next day
in the morning after around 17 hours of driving, finally, in Thunder Bay.
After a fitful nap we awoke to climb(and eat!). As we drove out and actually saw the
ice crags, Blakes "man I hope you picked something hard enough"
turned into "man that crap is high." We parked the truck under some of
the most gorgeous granite I've seen, and started our approach oggling
the routes on the way. Two guys were working their way up a chimney and
we watched what looked to be a nice and spicy lead. Continuing along the cliff
we wondered when Alpine Outing would show. Then, it was without a doubt, we found it.
The route gets its name from the beautiful setting and boulder slog approach. 30 minutes
of trudging through snowy rocks put us at the base where Blake took the lead and where some
interesting events ensued. Read on. ****Note: Blake made mentoin of this and I came to
realize it, too. At the time, I felt horribly defeated that we didn't make it up this simple
little route - I had my heart set and my mind made up that we could do it and we didn't.
When I look back at the pictures I realize that I readlly did enjoy the time up there.
It was a good trip and brought Blake, Jaclyn, and myself closer. "I love you guys!" =)
