East-Lake Ontario Fleet (40 boats)

.

As of 2007, there are 40 'known' boats in the East-Lake Ontario Fleet, 27 in Ontario, Canada and 13 in New York, United States

Ontario
3 - Belleville-Trenton Flotilla
9 - Picton Flotilla
8 - Kingston-Wolfe Island Flotilla
6 - Collins Bay Flotilla
4 - Gananoque Flotilla
1 - Cornwall

New York
5 - East Shore Flotilla
4 - Sodus Bay Flotilla
3 - Rochester Area Flotilla

Over 20 of the above are part of the Thousand Islands Flotilla. There are also some Thousand Island boats from the West-Lake Ontario Fleet and from off Lake Ontario. Currently, there are about 30 boats total in the Thousand Island Flotilla. Some Thousand Islands crews gather, as many have for the last 6 years, and sail together on East-Lake Ontario each summer. There is usually also a winter or spring Social.

Short History of the Thousand Islands Flotilla of East-Lake Ontario, by Lorie Simone, October 2007:

For twenty years, Angie & I sailed in the 1000 Islands from Toronto aboard LORIAN III, our 36 ft C&C Frigate. Our first port at the 'east end' was always Prinyers Cove. http://k7waterfront.org/Topic/PrinyersCove

We bought REVELATION 30U 260 in 1992 and sailed in the Kingston 1993 World Rendezvous. We quickly realized and enjoyed both the numbers and the close friendships of the Nonsuch owners. We also moved to Kingston in 1993. Still often enjoying Prinyers, we noted the number of West-Lake Ontario Nonsuches doing what we used to do . . . stopping there before going further east. The thought struck me, "Why not invite these crews to join a gathering at Prinyers on their way east?"

During the fall, winter, and spring of 2000/2001, I consulted with and obtained ideas from Larry Banbury, Arthur Langley, Graeme Morrisey, Dale & Orla Myrfield, Rod Sieffert, and Freidrich Sixel. It all made sense and our 'first 6' local boats agreed to a Regional Rendezvous in July 2001.

Friday July 13 & Saturday July 14 were chosen. Our crews had discussed and agreed . . . kids would be out of school and there would be enough time for crews to get the boats to Prinyers.

Friday started with happy hour ashore, crews dined separately on their boats, and all slept aboard. Saturday we had a competitive cruise to Collins Bay Yacht Club at the Collins Bay Marina http://www.collinsbaymarina.com/ and all dined together in the Clubhouse http://www.collinsbaymarina.com/cbyc/. All slept aboard and then were off on their own way that Sunday.

Our first year, 2001, there were only local Canadian boats. My memory says thta there was DUCK SOUP 30U , PURRFECTION 30U , PYEWACKET 26C , REVELATION 30U , TIROC 26C , and WE BE FREE 33 . These boats and their crews are still active members of the Thousand Islands Flotilla.

The year of our first Rendezvous, we had 6 boats and at last count we have about 30 boats on our roster. Since 2001, we have had an annual East-Lake Ontario Rendezvous. We often start at Prinyers Cove and have gone west as far as Presqu'ile Bay, near Brighton. http://www.brighton.ca/Tourism_Directions.html

14 of our boats & crews attended the Toronto 2006 World Rendezvous.

In 2007, for the first time, we met on the U.S. side of East-Lake Ontario and then sailed east into the 1000 Islands. Boats joined and left the cruise according to their schedules. It was another success!

( as captioned photos and write ups are provided . . . galleries will be created for past winter/spring Socials and past Rendezvous held 2001-2007 )
