February 18 - Trumpeter Swans

Monticello, Minnesota
The Monticello Nuclear Power Plant discharges warm water into
the Mississippi River, explaining why there is liquid water
here instead of ice. The swans have wintered here for generations,
and no longer know how to migrate. They would starve if not fed close to
$20,000 worth of corn every winter.

Great timing on this shot! Plus, I like how we get the size distinction with the other ducks.

A fine photo, but yet another sad story of how humans are interfering with nature.

Oh wow! Beautiful contrast with the blue of the water and white of the swans. The little ducks do not seem to be bothered at all by their movements. V

What a magnificent capture, Neal! You got it all, swans and ducks both and no ice or snow. \/
