Qinhuangdao was one of four remote sites where the preliminary rounds for football for the 2008 Beijing Olympics were held. The USA Women's Team went through here as did Norway, Japan and New Zealand. Argentina and China sent their teams through as well. On the men's side Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire played a knock-out match. Quite the atmosphere.
