A very deep image of the NGC 6946 region showing the VERY faint background nebulosity. This is the recently discovered and rarely imaged "integrated flux nebula". Which unlike normal reflection nebula that are illuminated from nearby stars arises from the dim glow of the combined or "integrated" reflected starlight from all of the stars in the milky way off dust located at high galactic latitudes in the polar regions of our galaxy.
This is the only image I am aware of that shows the integrated flux nebula in this region. Read more about the integrated flux nebula which is especially apparent in the M81/M82 region here: http://galaxyimages.com/UNP_IFNebula.html
