STILL LIFE ON BEACH

Hoping there is still life for this jellyfish,
and not ‘still’ as in ‘no longer alive'.
Hoping high tide carried this beauty
of a translucent creature back to its ocean home
along with the sandy, pretty seaweeds.

Why do we call them sea ‘weeds’.
Why must plants not propagated by humans be called weeds?
At least we do not call trees ‘weeds’
even if we treat them as such with our appetite for wood.

Back to the jellyfish.
Was it jellyfish inspiration that sparked
Chihuly’s art after he wandered Washington beaches?

I thought this was a painting when I saw the thumb; magnificent shot of what must have surely inspired Chihuly. Love your words too, so true. V

It does look like Chihuly's work doesn't it. Essentially a weed is some plant that you don't want.

What a beautiful capture, and I can imagine this being an inspiration for Chihuly's creations.

how pretty, and so artfully arranged...yes, it can't be healthy for the jellyfish stranded above the tide line...presumably the flowers are on sea grass, and of course kelp is not a plant but rather an organism..
