WHITE RIVER BRIDGE

Would you dare to cross this bridge
below the Emmons glacier?
Are you brave? Are you afraid?
Are you foolish, or are you confident?
Can you trust your feet to carry you safely
on this one log bridge across the racing snowmelt water?
A bridge with only one handrail?

If you’re hiking the 93 mile Mt Tahoma Wonderland Trail
you have little choice unless you make a long detour.
So, sit by the river, pray to river Gods,
still your mind, be one with Himalayan folk
who cross such bridges every day,
and step with firm intent across the icy flow.
