BLUE POPPY MEADOW
When she reached the clearing in the trees,
so few poppies were in bloom. They were blooming late.
You’ll have to imagine the meadow of other years
alive with ethereal dancing blue, Meconopsis lingholm.
It touched her heart though, to see three stages,
the bud, the flower, the last petal,
of these rare and delicate poppies
native to high wild Tibetan mountain slopes.
She knew she’d never attempt their cultivation,
she’d heard how hard they are to grow.
But each spring,
the meadow of blue poppies awaited her arrival.
