HORSETAIL FOREST

Lie down beside a Horsetail forest of today,
your eyes under feathery branches. Gaze up.
Imagine yourself small, and the plants giant trees.

You now live in the time of dinosaurs.
These prehistoric giants were once 100ft tall trees
at their peak 150 million years ago.
Then time cut short their size and height.

Now, with successful strategies for life,
courage in small and numerous ways,
and stubborn resilience, they persist and thrive
even in the most extreme environments,
the first plant to grow back after Mt. St Helens blew.

Complete with textured canopy and as if following contours of the land; 'tis a landscape in minature as well as a forest.

quite the herd of horsetails....they seem so sympathetic, like natural feather dusters...
