In the "lop" of luxury?

Sebring, Florida

This little rabbit, better known as the Holland Lop or Dwarf Lop, might at first glance seem as if she is living in the "lop" of luxury. (For our sanity we call her a her because he/she/it just doesn't seem right.)

A beautiful garden to play in, a large yard to run and jump in, doting humans that bring food and fresh water out every day.

Unfortunatetly, looks can be deceiving. For in the wild, domesticated rabbits do not know how to survive long. Cold, heat, being attacked, disease, starvation and more await that cute little bunny that is now discarded, that a child just "had to have".

I go out each morning and each night praying that I will catch a glimpse of her hopping along the fenceline, or in my garden, or even gratefully laying right next to one of my stone planters. My fear is that one morning or evening "Teaser", as we have affectionately named her, won't be seen.

I pray that my fears are never lived.

*Follow-up: we are in the slow process of getting Teaser used to us as we talk softly to her and coo to her, in the hopes that we will be able to give her a loving home, inside, away from the dangers of living outside. Luckily for her we have one of the greatest veterinarians around, okay, our animals think so, who will be more than glad to check her and get her healthy again. After that, our two dogs and cat will have another sister. Or is that brother?*
