Wow - what all did I do. Forgive me if I miss a step, I forgot to keep track.:(
Edited in Photoshop CS.
Used Highlight/Shadow first, to see what I had in the image to work with.
Then I took the magic wand, isolated the sand, feathered it to smooth transition, lightened it a little, keeping some of the midtone areas for detail.
Inverted and lighted the rest of the image. Didn't like it, so I deleted that part, unselected.
Used magic wand again, grabbed the sky, expanded by 5, then feathered by 10. Used Hue/Sat and Selective Color to get it to point that I liked. Deselected.
Used Quick Mask with med-small/med/hard brush to go just on the inside the children, then switched to med-large brush, set at soft to finish the inside of them.
Switched off quick mask, inverted, feathered by 6-7. Hit, Cntrl-H to hide the 'marching ants'.
Then played with levels and shadow/highlights until I got something that I liked.
Then used gaussian blur set at low setting, then added a smidge of noise back. Deselected.
Cropped, sent copy to Chris, then resized for gallery.
