Mark Twain said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was one summer in San Francisco." This shows the reason. Fog streamed through the gate all day, and the hot temperatures inland gave a strong offshore wind, so several boats from the marina had a race to Alcatraz and back, while the fishermen, bundled against the weather, seemed to have no luck at all this day.
