Bienville, "the father of New Orleans" explored the areas around Mobile, Alabama where the first "capital" of the new French colony was located. He found a bend in the Mississippi River and in 1718 set up a village there to be the new capital.
This statue was originally placed in front of Union Passenger Terminal in 1955 It was moved to this French Quarter location in 1996
