Fisher was built in 1899 as a sawmill town for the Louisiana Longleaf Lumber. The town served as living quarters and company store for the workers that harvested the lumber from the surrounding area
The town became a showplace, it was not a shanty town, but well laid out. At one time there was a theatre which attracted people from Many Natchitoches and Mansfield to see "movies"
In the 1960's Boise Cascade bought the company and subdivided the town. In 1970 Vancouver Plywood bought things and incorporated the mill with an adjacent operation. The base of the town was set aside as a historic is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
