The first church was built in 1872 but the structure was moved under oxen pulled wheels to the new town built around the location of the railroad.
The cemetery adjacent to the church was the only Christian cemetery where the graves were aligned north-south instead of the traditional facing east to the rising sun and Christ's resurrection.
For direction purposes, this photo was taken facing north.
