The church was founded in 1874, and in 1876 a school was also built. At the time, because of the lack of funding, there were no public schools open.

In 1911 the church was remodeled, not too much of a fact BUT funding for the remodeling was obtained from gifts by not only Episcopalians, but Presbyterians, Methodists, Roman Catholics, and even Jewish.
